More good news

We've been hearing about newly adopted cats and those from awhile ago too. We do enjoy that.

Jesse, who is now named Leon, has gone to live with Sophie. He wasn't sure he liked Sophie at first but you can see that she won him over in just a few short days. He loves to cuddle too which is owners appreciate!

The kittens are close in age, born the same month. Right now it appears Sophie may be a bigger girl than Leon will. Time will tell.

Fudge, who is now named Fiona, has moved with her owners and her BFF, Ezzie, to a new home so pictures and a new address were sent to us. Fiona came from a hoarder house to us as a kitten almost two years ago. She's a loving little girl who is happy to have just one cat buddy to play with and a family who loves them both.

What a difference a year makes

About a year ago Pet Haven took 3 very small kittens from an impound facility in the twin cities. 3 kittens were found in a garage, the mother had given birth there. The 4th one arrived several weeks later.

All weighed under 1.5 pounds and were thin and scrawny - and afraid of us. The man who owned the garage was going to live trap the mother so she could be spayed and he would return her to the neighborhood and continue to provide food, water and shelter for her.

The kittens were a project, a couple had infections that took some time to clear up, the runt, who was definitely in the worst condition, did not survive although we struggled for weeks. All were black with medium length fur although now that their coats are fully grown in, we realize they are long haired.

Dot, Denny and Duke have all been adopted and we have recent photos of Duke, now named Tsahim which we are told means fearless in Mongolian.

Tsahim resides with a dog, Monty, and loves him dearly. And he has turned into a large boy! 17 pounds and counting. The vet feels he is not overweight but should be close to 20 pounds when he is through growing!

All turned into charming, people loving kittens.

A new toy

Sometimes it is fun to get a new toy - when there are multiple kittens and young cats in the house, sharing can be a problem. This new fishing pole type toy was met with approval and very little squabbling - almost everyone was willing to take turns!

Wanda, Ladybug and Wendy check it out.

OK - who said the babies get to play?!

They don't share very well!

Smokey comes to take a turn -

Smokey is a medium haired black fellow but you can see that in the sunlight he has a lot of brown in his coat - he's a handsome guy.

All of the kittens and cats in this blog are ready for adoption except the 'babies'. There are 8 black and white kittens and they will be spayed and neutered the first two weeks in Aug. and then you will be able to go to our website and click on Cats Available for Adoption and see their bios and pictures. They are all adorable, all have different markings and all black and white. Tilly, their mother, is gray and white and she is very happily off to a foster home that has NO MORE KITTENS! Tilly will tell you that 8 babies is too many!

If you are out and about running errands this week, stop in the Chuck and Don's in Highland and meet Carl. He's a nifty young guy who is hoping to find a home - one with a family who is willing to play and play and play with him or one who has another busy kitten or young cat who will play with him - play is good when you have lots of energy and cuddles are nice too.

Updates are fun

We love to hear about the cats and kittens we previously had in foster care. Pictures are fun too - we can see how they've grown, where their favorites spots are in the home.

Life is good for Henry - this lucky former kitten was adopted into a home with 3 dogs. He and one of them, Mister, are the best of buddies and love to wrestle, groom and chew on each other.

Henry has been with his family for several years now - he certainly wouldn't have survived living in a rural, lake country wooded area on his own or made the friends he has. He is one of the lucky ones!

Kellog and Keegan are recently adopted, now called Ernie and Oscar - they are brothers who are very comfortable with each other. Nothing like a buddy to snooze with, play games of chase and wrestle and amuse friends and family.

These boys were part of a litter of 6 from a hoarder house - now their mom will have to worry about how fat they are getting rather than feeding starving 5 week olds 4 times a day to keep them alive.

Jenga is also from the hoarder house and will go to her new home later this week. She was close to hairless from malnutrition and flea allergies and the foster family discovered she is also deaf. She has adapted well, enjoys another cat buddy, snoozes hard and plays happily. She always enjoys having you wake her with a pat and some gentle words, even if she can't hear you.

July already!

Keep yourselves and your cats and dogs safe this weekend.

Wear sunscreen, drive safely and conservatively in a boat or on land.

Keep your cat and dog confined in the house so they are not frightened and or hurt by fireworks.

Some of the cats from our recent adoptions who are safe at home forever:

Rascal Jack - big and handsome, a great companion, very much a people cat. He hides his fishing pole toy and then pulls it out when it is time to play with you. Who says a cat isn't clever!

Ms High Jinx, Minx - a tiny kitten with lots of energy when she came from impound last late summer. She's celebrating her birthday on July 4th and has lots of toys, WINDOWS to check on the birds and critters who come to the many feeders and a family who adores her. Her foster thought she was a bit of a 'tom-boy' but she loves to hide her toys in her new bed - and take the ribbons apart so bows can be retied.

Nap in the bed? Well, maybe a cat nap but so far it is better as a toy.
